Each job board is capable of using dynamic or global searching.

The difference with these two types of searching methods is found in the way that search parameters are presented to the user. When using dynamic searching, the job board reviews the data contained in the database and only presents options that are in the database to the user for while he/she is developing search criteria. For example, in the location drop-down box only cities that are contained in the database are presented to the user for selection. This is useful for quick searches usually done through a browser. Considering the case of setting up RSS or e-mail alerts, a more general approach is desirable. This is because the parameters that will be searched for are unknown before data is stored in the database. Therefore the user is presented with a more generalized list of searching possibilities. For example in the location drop-down box all cities in the user’s area will be listed as opposed to just listing cities that are in the database. Therefore when new locations are added to the database alerts can be generated. When a job match has been made the user will be presented with the job titles that were found, their location, the salary offered and an indication of full or part-time. For each job listed the user can click “apply now” to directly apply for the job or she can click another link “get full details” to get a detailed description of the job and other information available in the database. Another link provided for the candidate is an “employer contact details” link that she can use only if she is registered. The candidate board also employs both dynamic and global candidate searching. When a candidate match is found the candidate's primary discipline is displayed along with his preferred locations, full or part-time preference, and minimum salary. A link is provided for employers to click to get more details such as notes on the candidate. Another link is provided which will automatically notify the site administrator that an employer would like more information on the candidate.
